The Industrial Collective Research (IGF)

Goal of the programme

The funding of industry-wide joint industrial research (IGF) projects aims to compensate for the structural disadvantages of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the field of research and development. These companies, due to their small size, are often unable to finance research contracts with external research institutions or maintain their own research departments. Within the framework of the IGF, SMEs can have their common problems addressed in joint research projects conducted by universities and non-university research institutions. This is particularly efficient because it consolidates similar research needs in a pre-competitive manner.

Application for funding.

Applications for funding of IGF projects can only be submitted by regular members of the AiF, such as the EFDS for the technology field “Thin Films.”

Companies or research institutions can submit topic proposals to the research associations. Details of the procedure are outlined in the guidelines for applying for and using grants from the BMWi for industrial collective research projects, which can be accessed in the download section of the AiF website related to IGF.

All information, documents, and guidelines regarding industrial collective research (IGF) can be found on the AiF website.

The AiF – Association of Industrial Research Associations “Otto von Guericke” e.V. – is an industry-driven innovation network established in 1954 to promote research and development in SMEs. It connects the interests of business, science, and politics. Its mission is to sustainably strengthen the competitiveness of the German economy as an umbrella organization for around 100 industry-specific research associations. The AiF, as a non-profit organization, is the sponsor of industrial collective research.
