Tuttlingen, May 2026 – The international workshop “Designing Interfaces – Innovations in Biosensor & Environmental Technology and Applications”, organised by the European Society of Thin Films (EFDS), impressively demonstrated in Tuttlingen just how much innovative potential lies within modern sensor and environmental technology. Over two days, experts from research and industry took the opportunity to engage in intensive discussions and drive forward new developments.
Participants discussed recent advances in biosensors, microfluidics, photonics, printed and flexible sensors, and implantable systems. The interdisciplinary programme highlighted the breadth and dynamism of developments in sensor and interface technologies – and the opportunities this presents for medical and environmental applications.
Despite a challenging economic environment the the event attracted a committed group of participants and a diverse group of participants. Particularly pleasing: Many guests took part in an event organised by the EFDS for the first time. This shows , how strongly the topic of biosensor technology appeals to new target groups and how relevant the format is for the industry.
The atmosphere was characterised by lively discussions, intensive exchange of knowledge and constructive conversations – both during the presentations and as well as during the breaks and during the supporting programme. The poster exhibition further enriched the workshop , by providing provided insights into current research projects and further deepened the dialogue.
A particular highlight was the field trip to the Hahn-Schickard Institute in Villingen-Schwenningen. The participants gained practical insights into applied research and development, which were met with great enthusiasm.
The joint dinner also provided ideal conditions fornetworking in a relaxed atmosphere and was greatly appreciated.
