Research for small and medium-sized enterprises: Surface technology remains the focus of collective industrial research
The European Society of Thin Films (EFDS) has been authorized to submit applications for industrial collective research (IGF) in the field of vacuum, plasma, and coating technologies for the year 2026. The EFDS is thus continuing its commitment to initiating and supporting practical research projects for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The IGF is a funding program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) that supports pre-competitive research and strengthens knowledge transfer between science and industry. The aim is to give SMEs access to innovative technologies by enabling them to develop application-oriented solutions in collaboration with research institutions.
The EFDS offers an established platform for initiating and coordinating research projects in various fields of technology. These include, among others:
- Energy technology: battery development, fuel cells, electrolysers
- Optics: Sensors, mirror technologies, precision lenses
- Electronics: Assembly of electronic components, advanced packaging, bonding
- Biomedical engineering: implants, surgical instruments, biotechnological materials
V2025 Conference: Focus on IGF Projects
A special highlight for all interested parties is the V2025 conference, which will take place in Dresden from October 13 to 16, 2025. V2025 is one of the leading industry gatherings for vacuum, plasma, and coating technologies in Europe and offers an excellent platform for exchanging ideas on current research topics and industrial applications.
The conference will also feature presentations of IGF projects that demonstrate how research and industry can successfully collaborate. The IGF session will offer insights into current and planned projects and invite discussion about future innovation potential.
