»Green ICT @ FMD« is a project initiated by the Forschungsfabrik Mikroelektronik Deutschland (FMD) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to reduce the CO2 footprint of information and communication technology (ICT) through research and development in microelectronics.

The competence center supports start-ups, SMEs, and large companies in various topics related to ecological sustainability, with a focus on the areas of »Sensor-Edge-Cloud Systems«, »Energy-efficient Communication Infrastructures«, and »Resource-optimized Microelectronics Production«.

The activities include:

  • Knowledge transfer in the development of material flow models, life cycle assessments (LCA), and CO2 footprint calculations for products and processes
  • Consultation on efficient and sustainable components and systems for Sensor-Edge-Cloud applications and communication infrastructures
  • Development of more environmentally friendly manufacturing processes for microelectronic components through material substitution and energy savings in cleanrooms
  • Provision and plausibility checks of life cycle assessment datasets.
